What we stand for

CLASSICS exists to give the greatest music ever made the room it deserves. Every mission we chase, every room we build, comes back to one belief: the canon isn't a playlist — it's a live, breathing thing that deserves a crowd.

Mission

To make the great music of yesterday feel alive today.

CLASSICS exists to honor the artists, albums, and catalogs that shaped culture — by building live experiences that reintroduce them to new generations and rekindle them for those who lived them the first time. We are archivists with sound systems.

Vision

A world where music history is a living, breathing community event.

We envision CLASSICS as the defining series for culturally fluent music fans across the country — the event that any real head knows, respects, and shows up for. An institution built on taste, care, and community.

Promise

Every night is a masterclass in someone's genius.

We promise our audience that every CLASSICS event will be deeply researched, lovingly programmed, and sonically impeccable. You will hear records you forgot you loved. You will discover things you missed. You will leave knowing more than you came in with — and feeling all of it in your body.

Born from a love of the canon

CLASSICS was built on a simple but powerful premise: the greatest music ever made deserves more than a playlist. It deserves a room. A crowd. A moment where everyone present feels the full weight of an artist's catalog — together, in real time.

Over five years in San Francisco, CLASSICS has become a ritual for people who grew up on the music they love and refuse to let it live only in their headphones. We create the space where reverence meets the dancefloor.

"The best records of all time deserve the best nights of all time. CLASSICS is that night."

Every edition of CLASSICS is a deliberate act of cultural memory. Whether it's a solo tribute to a singular artist or a Versus-style showdown between two giants of sound, each event is curated with the precision and passion of a liner note — and the energy of an opening night.

A night built on argument

CLASSICS takes two catalogs — artists, crews, eras, whatever the story calls for — and puts them in the same room. Short solo sets build the tension, a back-to-back finale forces the crowd to pick a side, and everyone argues about it on the way home. It's not a themed night bolted onto a regular DJ set — the format is the show. The concept flexes across four proven executions, chosen per night based on what the culture's actually talking about.

01 — Versus

Two catalogs, one finale

The core format. Two artists or crews, each get a solo set, then a back-to-back close. Built-in tension, built-in ending.

Neptunes vs. Timbaland — Jay Z vs. Jigga — Kanye vs. Drake
02 — Tribute

One catalog, fully explored

No opponent — just a deep run through a single artist, scene, or sound. Slower build, more room to dig.

One More Donut — A Tribute to J Dilla
03 — Multi-Way

Same tension, more threads

Three or more artists in the same night — a format variation that keeps the versus DNA but widens the argument.

Summer Walker vs. SZA vs. Ari Lennox
04 — Format Night

The device is the concept

Not artist vs. artist at all — a set built entirely around one structural conceit, cutting across the whole catalog.

All Hooks — All Intros

The principles behind every decision

01

Curation Over Convenience

We do not chase what is trending. We chase what is true. Every CLASSICS event begins with a question: does this artist deserve a night? The answer must be undeniable before we move forward.

02

Education Through Feeling

Great music teaches without lecturing. CLASSICS is designed to create moments of recognition and revelation — where the history lands in your chest before it ever reaches your head.

03

Community as the Canvas

The room is as important as the music. CLASSICS is built for people who care — the heads, the diggers, the curious, the devoted. We make space for everyone who wants to go deeper.

04

The Name Means Something

Every title we give a CLASSICS event is a creative act. The name sets the tone, tells the story, and signals intent. We write our titles the way an artist writes an album name — with purpose.

05

Respect the Craft

We take production seriously because the artists we honor took their work seriously. Sound quality, atmosphere, pacing, and programming are not afterthoughts — they are the event.

06

Local Roots, Universal Canon

CLASSICS is a San Francisco event with a global ear. We are built by and for a community that is diverse in background but unified by taste — and we program to reflect that breadth.

Authority, warmth, and specificity

CLASSICS speaks the way a great music critic writes — with authority, warmth, and specificity. We are not hypey. We are not ironic. We are passionate people who know what we're talking about and want you to feel what we feel.

CLASSICS is —
Authoritative without being elitist
Celebratory without being hollow
Specific and reference-rich
Literary in its event naming
Culturally reverent
Warm and inclusive in the room
CLASSICS is not —
Nostalgic for nostalgia's sake
Exclusive or gatekeeping
Hype-driven or trend-chasing
Generic nightlife marketing
Vague or uncommitted
Trying to be anything other than itself

Who comes through the door

CLASSICS draws the people who grew up with these records, and the people who discovered them later and feel like they missed something. Both belong here. Our crowd is united not by age or background but by the depth of their relationship to music.

We are not a mainstream event. We are not an underground event. We exist in the space where deep knowledge meets genuine joy — where the person who can name every sample on a record stands next to the person hearing it for the first time and both walk away changed.

Five years of nights, on record.

Each CLASSICS event is an original creative work. The name is the thesis. The programming is the argument. The room is the proof. Click any flyer to view it larger.
